Project specifications call for micropile steel to conform to ASTM A252 Grade 3. I chose a 5" schedule 80 pipe section that I know conforms to ASTM A500 Grade C. This 5" pipe is being used as compression and tension steel in my micropile and is not being driven or used as casing material. Does thsi section meet ASTM A252 or does it really need to?

Jason,

A252 pertains to seamles and welded steel pipe for piles. This is usually speced for drivin pipe piles.

A252 Grade 3 is Fy = 45ksi or 50ksi, depending on who you ask and who your supplier is.

A500 Grade C is Fy = 46ksi. It's uncommon for me to see A500 in any other grade than B (42ksi round, 46ksi square/rectangle) for pipe or HSS.

I don't know if A252 has any dimensional requirements, but you could probably get your steel supplier to forward you a summary of the requirements for A252.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Jeff
