I'm looking at an existing mezzanine framed with C section 'joists'. There is metal grating, mechanically attached. Do most engineers consider the C sections to be laterally braced?

Rather than think climate change and the corona virus as science, think of it as the wrath of God. Do you feel any better?

Mechanically attached via welds, or via their proprietary clips? If the clips, no. If welding, yes. The clips rely on friction only and even then are subject to how tight the installer torques them. Really the clips just prevent it from sliding around to the point of falling off the supporting structure.

Thanks, jay...
