Hello folks,

I may as well start by saying that I'm a total newbie and out of my league here... so, here it goes:

Can anyone tell me methods by which silicon nitride can be fabricated? Is it a sintering method? Can complex geometries be created? Is the required tooling expensive? Does anyone have a resource they could point me to?

Also, if I wanted to use silicone nitride as a wear surface over a metal such as tool steel, what are my fastening/bonding options to attach the silicon nitride to the steel?

Thanks,
Tux

If you want to know, you will have to study from the basics.
For getting an idea of your question you could profitably study the following:
"Engineered Materials Handbook Volume 4: Ceramics and Glasses", from
You may be able to find it in a technical books library.
Good luck!

Thank you for your response. I ordered a used copy online.
