I have sent an assembly c/w drawing to my VAR. I have come a cross a major performance issue that we still have no feedback from SolidWorks on. The problem is that if I open the drawing or the assembly, the load time is over 5 minutes. If I open the largest component (file size) first, then the assembly, then the drawing, I takes 20 seconds.... Has anyone else experience what I see as memory management issues??...

I design Firetruck and I have a bit of the same issue. I make assemblies that (the main assembly) will have around 600 pieces to load. When you open a sub assembly and let it load first, I find that it has already opened it up and will not take as long. My suggestion is to open a large assembly part of your main assembly and then the main assembly. Other that that, I do not beleive there is a solution to what you are looking for.

There are many issues which can affect file opening times.

Have the files you are trying to open, been converted to the version of SW that you are using?

Are you opening them over a network?

Are your temp files cleaned out?

Do you have enough RAM & Virtual Memory?

Have you defragged lately?

Are your system specs up to the job?

... and many more.

Hi, Beitel:

How long did it take you to open that largest component (file size)?

How long did it take you to open the assembly model?

I assume that it took you 20 seconds to open the assembly drawing document when the largest component (file size) and the assembly model are already loaded (opened) in memory.

Thanks,

Alex
