For testing a cbale of 4.16 Kv & 13.8 KV what is the Value of Voltage at which it should be meggered. We had a tesing compnay which was doing VLF testing, they tested both befor e & after the test Ir values. For 4.16 KV it was 5KV, i will have to check for 13.8 KV. Is there any standard related to it.

ANSI/NETA has these test values, your also need to know the % insulation value. Is this an existing or new cable? Are you looking for VLF or IR test values?

i was going for VLF test, but this meggering(IR) is done before & after the VLF test. The test is for New cable. The insulation values are 6/1o KV for 4.16 KV
Insulation values are 12/20 KV for 13.8 KV.

I dont think you understand what I am asking. Is there a reason you are questioning the testing company procedures or results? Or are you just trying to learn something? You seem to be confused.

NETA Acceptance Testing Standard ATS 2007, Table 100.1 titled "Insulation Resistance Test Values for Electrical Apparatus and Systems" states that both 5kV and 15kV rated equipment is to be tested at 2500VDC when performing an insulation resistance test. I hope this helps.

thanks Zogzog & dpmac, my reason behind my query was that the 4.16 KV & 13.8 KV cables were tested for Megger test at 5KV , so i wanted to Know which particular standard is being followed. The testing compnay guy was not providing any information.
thanks

Most dedicated testing companies are NETA and the techs are NETA certified which means they are following NETA standards. (In North America).
