Medium Voltage Transfer Switch

We are providing medium voltage generators to back up our medium voltage utility supply.

To sense loss of utility voltage and to start and transfer power to the gen sets, is this typically done through electrically operted breakers and relays or through a transfer switch typically seen in low voltage applications?
