please help.I want the formula used to calculate the maximum transverse shear stress of a hollow square beam.Please kindly do well to give me the source and reference of the formula if any.Thank you.

Section G5 of AISC 360-10 is the reference for shear strength of HSS and box members. The standard is a free download from AISC at

however there is much useful information in the full Steel Construction Manual which also contains the full standard.

Beers & Johnson, 2nd Edition, Chapter Four, totally devoted to transverse shear in thin walled members.

You should take the time to do the research, learn the model and their limitations, study the applications to your situation. Never know what you will learn.
