Mechanical coupler for #4 rebar stirrup

The welding procedure for lapping a new rebar to an old #4 rebar with a Carbon Equivalent of 0.49% seems to be quite involved. So am wondering if there might be a mechanical anchor around that can be used on a #4 stirrup vertical leg.

I've had good results using Zap Screwlock couplers by BarSplice Products. The couplers are a little bulky, so you need to watch clearances, and you will need a few inches of exposed bar to attach to.

I'm looking for these too. Do you know of others that can accept 10mm rebars splice? Your Lenton Quick Wedge can only accept 12, 16, 20mm.. and it's better to have mechanical couplers that don't need expensive pin driver tool. Do all need electric drivers? Thank you.

Oh. I checked and found out my reinforcement is 12mm (#4) too just like the original poster. Has anyone used other brands.. preferably without the expensive driver tool? And recommended by the industry? And if someone has bought the Lenton Quick Wedge and the driver too.. how much is the tool? Is Lenton the only reliable brand for rebar mechanical coupler or splicer?

I now find that the welding of the rebar with 0.49% carbon equivalent is in fact not a special process as I was previously led to believe, and is not onerous, so the question seems to have resolved itself, but I am still interested in the possibility of a mechanical splice for the old #4 vertical legs of some stirrups. I assume that I would have to splice a new 10M metric bar (imperial bars are no longer available in Canada) to the old #4 imperial bar, above and below the break in the #4 bar... Do you know if the mechanical splice can do that? I suppose I should go to the manufacturer and ask that.
