I now find that the welding of the rebar with 0.49% carbon equivalent is in fact not a special process as I was previously led to believe, and is not onerous, so the question seems to have resolved itself, but I am still interested in the possibility of a mechanical splice for the old #4 vertical legs of some stirrups. I assume that I would have to splice a new 10M metric bar (imperial bars are no longer available in Canada) to the old #4 imperial bar, above and below the break in the #4 bar... Do you know if the mechanical splice can do that? I suppose I should go to the manufacturer and ask that.
