Hello all

There is a distinct mark (Either an arrow or a dot)in addition to normal markings, every 16" in a commercially available measuring tape. What does this indicate?
Does 16" stand for some old measuring units?

I believe it is for spacing studs when framing buildings at 16" on center.

That is exactly it, 16" on center is a standard framing dimension in the US.

Correctomundo, 16" is standard stud spacing for residential housing construction in the US. For commercial I believe you can use either 16" or 24"

OOPS, Like sms states it is for framing in general (US); rafters, floor joist, studs etc., etc.
