Measuring molten sulphur flow

We are looking at measuring the flow of molten sulphur (150 deg. C) through a 6" steam jacketed line. Any ideas for a suitable type of meter

We have used coriolis mass flow meters successfully in smaller lines. The mass flow meter utilized a bolt-on steam jacket with heat transfer mastic between the jacket and meter body.
 
Got this from a friend of mine who specializes in sulphur:

Enersul (formerly Procor, Calgary Alberta) have told
me that they have good experience with vortex meters.
That is what they have used in their forming
facilities to flow control liquid sulphur.

The latest and greatest is corriolis or mass flow
meters which have very high accuracy and can be used
for custody transfer if this is an issue. Fluor
Arabia recommended these for our forming expansion
project. Elmo Nasato of Goar Allison & Associates was
telling me just the other day that, mass flow meters
are used in this service with very high accuracy.

In either case you have to be very sure the thing is
jacketed for heavily traced and insulted. Don't let
it freeze!
 
I heard that a Insertion Multi variable Mass Vortex is suitable for this application. At least chaeper than a Corioles for this size and with good tracing.

Vortex meters are cheaper than corriolis mass flow meters and can work upto 0.5% accuracy. They come in various linings from inside and we can get meters where bluff blody is fitted to meter body in a leak proof way. Custody transfer is a very simple issue when compared to variable flow measurement.

I saw even annubar type DP meters working satisfactorily for sulphuric acid plants. (SO3 measurement)

One thing not clear to me is, why for measurement of molten sulphur we require multi variable mass (is it density compensation?) meters?

Truth: Even the hardest of the problems will have atleast one simple solution. Mine may not be one.
 
Multi variable Vortex meters calculate the Reynolds number and compensate for the "low flow non linearity" of a Vortex meter. I assume that the flow will be relatively low. To obtain a better accuracy in this lower range and to avoid reducing the pipe line to increase velocity you could consider such a unit as the Innova=Mass. Even than I think that the 0.5% is a bit optimistic in reality.
Yes, you can measure the density as well!!

Going on a trip now, be back the 17th June!
