So why does this happen? Or more importantly How do I fix it?
This only shows up when the assembly is rendered.
The part rendered by itself is ok

Make sure your 'Shade quality' is set to 10 in your 'Model Display'. 'Edge/Line' quality should be sufficient at medium. If you set the edgle/line quality to 'very high' you may find your system RAM being eaten up.

This should sort your problem.

This assy is running too close to max right now. Next week I get a new cpu installed with more ram... I'll try then.

I think you just experienced "shadow leaks" try to give the edges a small round and give it another try.
