Max overpressure for pumps

What are the rules governing overpressure limits for ANSI and API pumps? Since they are not pressure vessels, are treated the same as piping from the perspective of overpressure protection?

They are normally treated as a pressure vessel. You can use any combination of protection you want between the piping and vessels.
