Does anyone know of an article in any code that restricts the weight of hanging transformers. The transformer in question is about 400lbs and will be installed in bar joist construciton with I beam columns.

Thanks in advance for any input !!

Not familair with IEC.

But NEC (IEEE) does not have any such restrictions that I am aware of.

It is in fact a structural integrity issue and should be reviewed by a structrual engineer.

In the USA , in commmercial/institutional facilities, I have seen transformer upto 150kVA being hanged from the ceiling.

The only other codes I might think of that might affect this would be seismic codes (if applicable).

I agree with rbulsara, get a structural engineer. After all that trouble hanging your transformer, you don't want it to end up on the floor.
