I was wondering if there is a math package for EE calculations in the autocad software programs? Or if there is a corresponding package that you have to buy seperate? Thanks--Lanny

If you hunt around this site, particularly in the engineering software program forums, there are previous postings that discuss various math programs. And it REALLY, REALLY depends on what you want to do:

Mathcad: general "blank sheet" math program with units built into the calculation process and on-the-fly unit conversions.

Matlab: good at matrix math and the standard tool for discrete time/event simulation of mathematically based systems, e.g., servos, etc.

Mathematica: high-end symbolic math program

Maple: ditto

TKSolver: table-based math program comparable to Mathcad

etc., etc.

You can use AutoCAD's built-in customization
programs to create the calculation routines
you need. Have used this method to do pressure
vessels calculations (sheel/head thicknesses)
and then automatically draws the top, elevation
and section view of the pressure vessel.

You will find that electrical calcs are done best on other programs then pasted to Autocad. Autocad is a great design and drafting tool. To do calcs on Autocad Is like doing word processing or data base work on cad, It can be done but not the best tool yet.

Mathcad has an Autocad add-in:
Mathcad Add-In for AutoCAD
McadAcad.exe (2.4 MB)
The Mathcad Add-In for AutoCAD 2000 lets you integrate Mathcad calculations into your AutoCAD projects for analysis and documentation. This new version provides more flexibility in inputs and outputs and easy placeholder removal, and supports Windows XP, and AutoCAD 2000, 2000i, and 2002 full versions, not LT. Note: The Add-In works specifically with AutoCAD, not with other Autodesk products. Recommended for all AutoCAD users.

Never used it, so no more information than the above.
