Pls can some one help me out wit the stainless steel material to choose bw 316h and 316Ti, for a refinery ppeline job that will withstand temperature of 1200 degree celsuis.
I am checking the weldability, corrosion resistance, physical properies, mechanical properties and economical cost

cloa, i have gone through the link. do u advice me to use 316L over 316H for the job? there is no listing for 316H in your link. the location for the job is in Nigeria were the climate is relatively hot, coupled with fluid temperature of 1200 defree celsuis

In my opinion, 1200C is very high for any of the alloys suggested, irrespective of the geography .Are you sure it is not Fahrenheit?

You are not permitted to use either material for pressure boundary application under ASME B&PV Codes and Standards at 1200 deg C. Typically, this material is permitted for use to 815 deg C.

When you say can withstand 1200 C- does that mean continuously or its usual service temperature is lower say 1000C and it might occasionally reach a temperature of about 1200C? What is the actual fluid? 330 looks like one to consider.

1200c is the maximum, but it may vary,i.e lower dat 1200c attimes. But we are looking at 1200c at d maximum. i will look into the properties of 330
Thanks

You need to either water cool or use refractory to protect the tube metal from exposure to temperatures at 1200 deg C.

What was the original material? What problems did you encounter to seek a change in material? I agree,330 is a good material, if you can afford

This is a new project, and no material has been used. the piping engineer is looking 4 a suitable stainless steel that will be used in the project. for fluid carrying temperature of 1200c

You make no mention of internal pressure, among other pertinent design information so I would disagree with selection of any material at this point given current information. Piping for conveying fluids should be designed to a known piping standard with accepted materials.
