Whats the story with the material translation?

Ive tried to open a few fully rendered models and the materials are totally jacked! (Its a brushed aluminum material)

If I go back to SW03, and open the file its fine...

Hmmm....

Any ideas?

You need to run the PW2 translation utility on your file before opening and saving. Even then the materials really don't look the same in PW2 as they did in PW1. I found it's best to just re-apply new materials in PW2.

jacked???

How do you mean by Jacked?

Before? Yes a Dialog box will open and ask If Id like to translate. WoW Thanks SWX... that worked *really* good! [thumbsdown]

The problem is that some were custom! ((sigh))

Jacked... FUBAR ... Broken... Will not appear as designed....No workie' [nosmiley]

Ah.. Custom materials won't translate at all!!! You will definately need to re-apply those. Welcome to PW2. In all fairness PW2 does produce a better rendering. It is a bit of a shock when you realize your old renderings all have to be redone.

However, they will be done much better by PW2 if you take advantage of the new shadow control and indirect lighting.

Give it a spin. You'll never want to go back--at least, not after you figure out all the new techniques necessary.
