Ok ive been working at this company for about a year now and every MTR is located in a filing cabinet which has 10,000 MTR's in it, most are logged in numerical order but the few that are not ,takes hours of searching to find 1 MTR .is there free software out there that will help me simplify this process?

We have some similar struggles here at my company. The ideal, as we see it, is for the receiving inspector to scan the MTR onto the server and tie it to the purchase order number and the heat number of the piece. That way, you can search later by heat number or po#.

If this is at a construction site, it would also be wise to have this discussion with your receiving/warehousing/laydown yard personnel. Depending on how they req. out their material, there may be some other ways you want to categorize it.
