Good morning all
I was designing pressure vessel for h2so4 media . The base material we select for that is SA-516 gr 60 . The customer says its ok to use that but that plate procurement will be asme section 2 and should be NACE sp0294-2006 compliant . What is the basic difference in both of them . Material manufacturing process is different or material chemical compositions are different . My vendors says its just i certificate nothing else but i do not think that . Please advise how to proceed with material procurement . Also does this will also have any effect on my design calculations ?

Your issue is really too complicated to adequately address in an internet forum, besides which you need to develop your own knowledge and confidence on the subject.

Get specifications and read for yourself.

Regards,

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

The stated NACE standard was renamed as NACE SP0296-2010.Title:Standard Practice Detection, Repair, and Mitigation of Cracking in Refinery Equipment in Wet H2S Environments.
ASME Sec-II, Part-A SA 516 provides detailed guidelines for manufacturing, processing, heat treatment. mechanical testing and other aspects of plates belonging to this classification.
NACE SP0296-2010, specifies additional requirements for Wet H2S Environments as outlined above.

In fact according to the above NACE standard:- NACE Publication 8X194,Materials and Fabrication Practices for New Pressure Vessels Used in Wet H2S Refinery Service-Should be applicable for new pressure vessels (never in service).

You need to read understand the above mentioned NACE standards and proceed accordingly.

If the above stated standards are mandatory then it needs to be specified in the P.O so as to get the plates conforming to additional NACE requirements, over and above the ASME requirements. You need to hire the qualified metallurgists/welding specialists to provide expertize as required.
