I am currently designing a remote control model for a bit of fun. I have been for the last 10 years. I have recently discovered solidworks and found the joys of all the features. I would like to get my hands on a materails databse that contains moddeling materials like balsa wood, light ply, solar film and ripstop nylon.

Any ideas I have had a quick flick through some websites but no joy....

Failing a database can anyone point me in the right direction as to where I might find all the properties myself I.E elastic modulus and the such.

Hmm sorry guys looked at both of those places and they dont seem to be any good atall. I have worked out how to write solid work material databases so i might have to find a book of standars somewhere.

Matweb is better than any "book of standards" I have ever seen. I just did a quick search over there for balsa wood, got 5 responses. All of them list density, tensile strength... all sorts of goodies. If you pay for the service, it will embed this data into your Solidworks material database.

As far as "solar film" you may have to do a bit of research to find out what material that really is. It may be Mylar, Kapton etc. Those materials are listed on Matweb as well. Good luck.
