Mate Stability SW 2006

Good Morning. I am running SW SP1.0 and wanted to see if anyone else is experiencing mate instability in any of the 2006 service packs. By instablility I mean getting a message stating that you cannot create a (parrallel, perpendicular, distance, concentric, coincident, angular, or other) mate b/c you are "x" number of inches/degrees away. Something like that. It happens very frequently to us....and we are positive that we should be able to create the mates.

Has anybody seen this at all? What about in the later sp's? We are thinking of upgrading to 3.0 soon, especially if this has been corrected.

I had this problem several times and have not upgraded yet. I didn't keep track of the circumstances, but I think sometimes I selected the wrong features for the mate, or had a conflicting mate that I deleted to make the error go away, or I just had to drag the part nearer to where it should be.

I'm also running 2006 SP1.0

This happens quite often. Ocassionally I've goofed and have conflicts with other mates I've created. Opps.

MOST of the time, SW is just messed up. If I rotate/drag/move the part closer to where it'll be after it's mated it mates fine with no other changes.

Annoying, but easily worked around. Hopefully this is fixed in later SP's.

I also often have mates that work fine, then give error messages the next time the file is opened. Sometimes I can edit them and they work fine. Sometimes Cntrl-Q fixes them. Sometimes they have to be deleted and recreated. Often I just ignore them.

Have you seen much of this problem?

Yes, I've seen everything you mentioned in the latter part of your message, thanks for replying!

Also, I find that parts will show as under-defined in an assembly, even though they are clearly fixed in place w/ 3+ mates. When I hit ctrl-q (much like fixing errors in FMT), the same parts suddenly chg from being under-defined to defined. I've had to warn my collegues to ctrl-Q frequently when building assemblies, b/c you can mistakenly over-define parts due to this error. I submitted an enhancement request on this some time ago. Dont' know if it's been fixed. I'm pushing an upgrade to 3.0

I submitted a mate problem to my VAR, including all the files and assemblies involved. He looked at it for several days, and ALMOST had me convinced I was not using SW correctly. He sent it on to SW headquarters; someone there said SW was behaving strangely regarding the mates, and issued SPR 272269.
