Greetings all!

I have a question regarding callout attribute of the assembly components in NX8.5 When there's no parts list present, I can rewrite callouts manually. But once I initiate parts list, callouts are getting overwritten from the parts list and assume values accordingly.

The question is: is it possible to map callout is the opposite direction? Namely force part list to accept callouts written manually in the componet attributes snd sort lines accordingly? I can think of cases when this is the best workflow.

I think this can be done using Teamcenter to predefine the 'Callouts', but there's no way that I'm aware of that will allow you to do this in 'native' mode, except...

...there is a way to force the Parts List to be reordered based on an alternative scheme which would then force the system to reassign the Callouts the way that you wish. What you need to do is ADD a new attribute to the Components, say one named 'Order', and you assign the value of this attribute to the what you want the callout to be, either the desired letter or number. Note that this can be done at the Master Model drawing level so you do NOT need write-access to the actual component parts (in fact, it's probably better to do it at the Drawing level since the parts may be used in other Assemblies where you might want a different 'order'). OK, once you've assigned the 'Order' letters/numbers, you need to add an additional column to the Parts List for this attribute but you edit it's width to be zero (0.00) wide. Now select the Parts List, press MB3 and select the 'Sort' option and when the list of columns is displayed, select the one that you just added (it's name may appear as a series of '#####' but that's OK, it still works) as the 'sort' column and deselect any of the others and hit OK. Now the Parts List will resort based on the lettering/number scheme of the 'Order' column (even though it's not visible) which will also force the system to reorder the Callout column, which will now be the same as your 'Order' column (if you could see it).

Anyway, I know it's a bit of a kludge, but it does work.

Thank you, John! Interesting idea. I will try it.
