Manufacturing process of this part???

Does anyone know the manufacturing process of this bottle? I had thought it was just blow molded but then someone asked "how do they make the handle"? and suddenly i was stumped?

How would you make the hollow handle in a mold type process? Cant think of how to do it with either blow molding or injection molding?

Does anyone have any clue?

Extending my foundry knowledge,in my opinion,the hold portion is formed by providing a metal insert .

I think the perimeter of the handle is defined when the parison is pinched before inflation.

I.e., before inflation, the precursor is an extruded tube of ovoid cross section. You can see a fold in the bottle's bottom at the parting line that suggests the width of the parison is most of the bottle's diameter. I think the parison is inflated a little and bellied out a bit to ensure there's material for the handle, then the mold is closed and the parison is inflated against it.

Double-necked jugs are made the same way, but cut off halfway down the 'handle' to make two necks.

Milk jugs will often show up at the store with the piece of material inside the handle not completely removed showing they are blow molded.

Thanks everyone.. but even with blow molding, how do you form the handle? How do you form the handle at an angle, hollow and connecting to the main body of the bottle all at the same time? Do you think this is this an extruded blow molding process or does it use a preform?

Blow molding without the angled handle is obvious.. but with the handle no so much.

Pretty sure it's blow molded.

Mike Halloran described the way that the parison is handled within the blow molding process in order to produce hollow articles with handles.

I'm guessing that the plastic is extruded into a a large, flat tube, hanging from the extruder, and then blow molded in a clam shell mold before it cools. The material in the handle loop gets clipped out, as does the opening to the jug.
