manufacturing heater coils

I'm curious about how heater coils are made. I know that some companies take a steel tube with a wire through it, and then fill the tube with some kind of dielectric powder. So, what kinds of dielectric insulators are used, and what is the advantage using them? I've heard of magnesium and aluminum powder being used, but I'm not sure why, exactly.

Your question is way to vague to even take a stab at.

Any heater company would tell you exactly how they make their heaters. So if you have one in particular just ask them.

The insulation is usually magnesium oxide. You can find out more on the manufacturer's websites (Chromolox, Watlow). These are used where need to electrically insulate what you are heating from the the electrical power so you don't electrocute someone). It also provides physical and chemical protection to the heater wire.
