Hello,

I have an application where I need to make mold splits in Solidworks for some medical products. We'll be using MUD units with steel inserts, with 1/4" OD CAL rods through the mold base. There will be other hand-loaded inserts within the part(s) as well. What would be a good way of achieving the mold splits for this kind of situation in Solidworks? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Kevin

I used to say use an assembly and the Cavity feature, but I've now grown more and more to liking the in-part Mold features available. You can create shut-off surfaces to fill holes, etc. now, and I like the flexibility. You can even create your own parting surfaces if you don't like the default surfaces.

Check the tutorial built into SolidWorks on Mold stuff.
