Hi everyone, while working with wooden structures, I came up with this question. If anyone can help me, I would be grateful.
Regarding exposed wooden structures, what is the recommended maintenance for renewing their protection and painting?

It depends on the exposure, protective measures, and a slew of other parameters that makes any general estimate useless.

And the rot and failure hides in places you can't see or get access to.

Hence why choice of timber and protection before installation is more important than ongoing maintainence.

Avoidance of percent wet or wet dry conditions is key.

But could be every year or once every 5 years.

In geographic areas without excessive termite infestation or other adverse environmental conditions, a modern log home is recommended to have the exterior surfaces of the timber refinished every 12-24 months. Exposed interior surfaces should be addressed every 24-36 months.

For other materials (timber siding or shingling for example), follow specific manufacturers' recommendations.
