Magnetic Liquid Brake 1

All,

A couple of years back I had a a sales rep for one of the pneumatic cylinder companies demonstrate a cylinder that used a magnetic brake for position control. The brake was basically a liquid with iron particles in suspension. When there was no magnetic field the liquid flowed. When a magnetic field was applied the liquid stopped flowing and would plug in a pinch point. If anyone has any information on the liquid and or the pneumatic cylinder company I would be most appreciative.

Checking the site, I could not help but point this out:

BTW, This technology has been tried off-road but the iron caused rapid wear in sensitive areas.

In looking at the costs per liter for the material on the Lord website, is there anyone else out there manufacturing this type of material?
