Howdy,

I've come across an old SW macro in our company files that our CAD administrator would like to reactivate. Unfortunately it's set up in a way that requires a password to edit it. I've never run across this before. I can't believe somebody put a password on an open source (.swp) file. I can open it with NotePad++, but can't seem to find the password part of the code.

Does anybody know a way around or do I just start over?

I can certainly believe it. You don't want people screwing up your code, especially if it's used in a production type environment. I have a couple of Excel spreadsheets with password protected code in them.

Unfortunately, I believe you're probably SOL unless you can find (and trust!) a VBA password recovery software package. It's possible you might be able to find someone on Tek-Tips that already has such a utility, but I'm not so familiar with that community.

handleman,

Thanks for your reply. I've thought about somebody changing the code before. I've taken only minor measures to keep track of this. I have all my released macro files in a network folder that only I (and IT) have access to. Anyone can change anything they want, but, can't blame me for it :) . It's a shame we have to think about somebody doing something malicious.

Thanks Again

I certainly didn't intend to imply any malicious intent on the part of my co-workers here. However, well-meaning bumbling incompetence often causes the same level of damage! ;-)

usiko,

WOW!!! - Thank you very much!!! - that's very helpful. You'll probably have to change your name after this though :) .

Thanks Again

I could use help with a password-protected macro. I purchased PropertyList from Kent Contract for $20. Whenever his website closed, the macro quit working.

His website is the 9th one down on the second list, and you will see that the link is now dead and for sale:

That said, can someone remove the password to this macro?

fcsuper,

I'm sure everybody would agree with you. It was also was written a few years ago and can be simplified. I'm supposed to fix it :) .

Thanks

fcsuper,

LOL LOL LOL - Yes - I'll replace it - just don't tell anybody :) . I'm thinking I've been asked to "fix" it because somebody thinks that will save time :) . Yeah right :) .

Thanks

Tobin,

Just tell them that while you were fixing it, you renamed it RigidCustomProperties. LOL
