Anyone out there have familiarity with grinding Si3N4? We do some work with it and are able to do a lot of grinding in the unfired state, but in the fired state we tend to eat up tools very fast. I know this stuff is tough to machine but not sure why we break so many tools.

It cannot be machined. You can only grind it. All processes are done thru grinding over long periods (hours) with low forces. You also need fairly rigid machines. If you want to drill it, these days, you'd be better off using a laser.
