Is it possble to obtain a transfer function for a machine tool's dynamic system (e.g Lathe)? I like to see if it could be possible to develop a machine tool diagnostic system based on ANN and or Fuzzy logic.

Only if your making fuzzy parts.

But on the serious side, is there an application/need to use ANN on a lathe? I would have thought there were not enough critical variables to justify an ANN.
