LVL to steel column connection

Anyone ever done a steel shear tab to support LVL's in bolted connection?

For construction/erection, I was going to use a WT shape, the LVL could sit on the flanges, and then be bolted for stability. They are braced too at 16 o.c., so I was going to use the WT to take all the load.

Any suggestions?

Same question here I think: Link. If it's at all possible, I'd feel a lot better with something like this that preserves something of the direct bearing.

For wood stuff... I prefer seated connections.

I'm partial to a saddle with the vertically slotted holes. Either way works though, had a few instances when using a knife plate several years ago where they connected all the ply's on the ground so when they went to lift the beam in place ended up having to pry the ply's apart at the end so for everything after that I've gone with the saddle. For the WT I'd just make sure the keep an eye on the web thickness so your not asking for too much of a gap between the ply's for the connection.

Depending on the load and direction of load, I typically just have them weld a concealed flange hanger to the beam (Simpson HUC). They have a tech note somewhere regarding capacity.
 

Not a big wood guy... but generally use a single bolt located near the bottom to prevent shrinkage splitting. I've used knife plate type connectons with wood and stress tested 'ironwood pegs' to hide steel connections... last project like that was a decade back... worked well... I had expected the wood pegs would be 'nibbled' and exposed... the contractor cut them flush with a Japanese pull saw... and the pegs were invisible.
