Hi, could anyone answer the following for me.

What does the section slicing functiion in LUSAS actually do?

Describe the difference between linear and quadratic shell elements?

What is the difference between plane strain and plane stress elements and where would you use either?

Thanks, any help is greatly appreciated.
If anyone has any useful links that explain LUSAS to the lame thatd be great too
 
"Describe the difference between linear and quadratic shell elements?" ... general question, general answer ... linear shell elements assume a linear displacement function along their edges, hence they have only corner nodes. quadratic elements assume (i reckon you can guess this) a quadratic function and so have mid-side nodes.

this would be written up in any FE text.

 
rb answered your first question.....for the answer to the second look in any basic Mechanics of Materials book....you would use plane stress elements when you have a condition of plane stress and likewise for plane strain.....

"Section through 3D" allows you to view results on a section through a model containing 3D elements.
"Slice resultants beams/shells" computes moments and shears at a slice through a 3D model containing shell elements.

The help files and support desk should give all the answers you need.
