Lube oil suction bells

Hello All.

I need to install a new oil pump suction line into the ships existing oil sump for a new engine we are installing. I will be using a bell suction mounted a certain distance above the bottom of the sump.

Are there any rules of thumb or guidelines for bell shape or height above bottom? Do rounded edges on the bottom of the bell help minimize suction loss?
