LRFD combinations question

I'm a bit confused with LRFD combinations. In the case of a machine like a big air compressor for example how could I apply load combinations? Would the dead load be the weight of the empty tank and would the live load be the air inside? Thanks for the help.

If I understand your question correctly, a fixed, immovable compressor with a full fuel tank should be a dead load. A movable compressor, say, on wheels, with a full fuel tank, would be a live load. I would not include the weight of any compressed air inside the compressor tank.

I have seen compressors where the reciprocating forces may reasonably be added to the live load.
I am remembering some large, slow compressors with twin cylinders.
