I'm looking to buy a house with 2 acres, half of which is soggy in the backyard. The township is known for its high watertable, however, there is a slight slope (2%) towards the woods in the back. Is there a way I can get rid of this soggy problem?

Construction of a shallow drainage ditch nearby may help lower the water table in the area. The ground surface should be graded to drain surface water runoff into the ditch. If there is insufficient slope, the water will pond. Certain soil types (clays, silts) are also more prone to soggy conditions than free-draining soils such as sands. Geotextile -wrapped, slotted plastic pipe drains placed at specific spacings sloped to drain into the ditch may be necessary to keep the area drained and relatively dry.
