I currently have a design for a simple planetary gear box for a power actuator that has a ratio of 4:1 per stage.
I have it set up as 2 stages so the overall ratio is 16:1.

I have had a new requirement dumped on me. We now need a shifting planetary where we either want a total ratio of 16:1 or 64:1 depending on shifting needs. (i.e. ideally a 3rd stage of 4:1 engaged at time).

Can anyone guide me towards a design such a device ? I am willing to use solenoids or brakes to engage or disengage stages, but I prefer not to have gear teeth slide past each other during shifting. i.e teeth should be permanently engaged

Any help would be appreciated.
