I have an older model loadcell (Transducer Technologies LPU-20K capacity). I am looking for some free software to interface my laptop with the loadcell. Basic stress/strain/force type of stuff. Any thoughts?

I think you will need some hardware to provide power to the cell and read the signal coming out.

You can not interface the computer directly to the load cell. The load cell needs a very stable voltage source and an accurate volt meter. You are effectively trying to measure micro-ohm changes in resistance.

There are many many different data logging and data acquisition systems available. I checked Omega.com and the cheapest set-up was $140 and used the RS485 port. I also found this USB interface for $55 but I'm not sure how to work the software side.
