Hello,

I am looking for a formula to calculate the number of holes that can be drill on in a tubesheet, given the tubesheet diameter, tube size and tube hole pitch.

I have come across this in the past, but just can't locate it in my reference texts.

Thanks...

In under the link (second paragraph, right hand column,) marked "steps in the design" of a robert evaporator, click this link, and find the link "calculation" (last word of second to last paragraph, and download the program you are looking for.

Enjoy,

rmw

Don't forget the number of tube passes, that would cancel rows of holes. [smile]

Applied Process Design for Chemical and Petrochemical plants Volume 3, Chapter 10, by Ernest E. Ludwig -Gulf Publishing Company- gives tables and figures on tubesheet layout count depending on the number of passes, ID of shell, fixed tubes, U-tubes, floating head, type and size of pitches and, of course, diameter of tubes and the clearance between shell and tubes. Allowance for tie rods and impingement plates require the omission of tubes.
