I am looking for a simple inexpensive countdown relay timer. This is for a price sensitive higher volume OEM application so a low price is essential. It will not be loaded over 3 amps @ 120VAC. Preferred time range would be 12-120hrs but this is somewhat flexible.

It will be simply switching off a small load after the time has expired no bells or whistles needed whatsoever.

If anyone could point me in the right direction or has a suggestion I would appreciate it greatly.

Thanks in advance,

/Mark

A six-legged PIC and a triac is hard to beat price-wise. If your timing precision isn't too high, you can run off internal oscillator. Power supply can be done with a cap, a diode, an electrolytic cap and a zener. Gives some transient protection as well.

Triac needs to be fused (and that sometimes doesn't help either). So a cheap relay should be used if you shun fuses.

Do you need to change time delay in field?

Lots of guys can do this for you. Some of them are regulars in here.

If you don't want to do it yourself, you can't get much cheaper than these things in quantity. This only shows up to 10 hours, but they will make you anything you want if it involves OEM quantities. But you will need to define your needs a bit more, i.e. how do you want to set the time value, initiate a trigger, do you want to turn something on after a time, or leave it on after de-triggering, etc. etc.?

Yep, yep, yep. Your requireddddddddd (ddddddd key has cherry juice in it[banghead]) time accuracy really sort of dddrives everything. If over those long times you needdd accurate time then you will needddddd something with a crystal. But the biggest thing is how to adddddddddddddddjust it. Fixeddd or addddjustable?

Must fix this key..
