I'm looking for a fundamental book an machine dynamics preferably concentrating on the vibration performance of a generator and gas / steam rotors

I would prefer a book that starts with the basics and a book that is a bit further advanced

A good basic vibration book is "Mechanical Vibrations" by J.P. Den Hartog, ISBN 0-486-64785-4. It is an extreamly old book but does provide a starting point for vibration fundermentals and it has chapter covering rotating machinery vibration.

I personaly have not found a good book specificaly dealing with gas/steam rotor vibration.

hello Mr.Wolf,
reg funda and application point of view i will suggest a book namely, mechanical vibrations by Dr.Ramamurti,IIT Madras. specifically if u r looking on rotors u can go 4 some Rotor Dynamics book(reg author-no idea)
