I am involved with a 340 ton Trane air cooled chiller that needs to be replaced soon. The end-used wants to explore magnetic bearing units. I have heard all the sales pitches, but I have never put one in. I am wondering if anyone has a long history with a unit that has been installed. Are there any maintenance issues that have given you second thoughts? Is this type of unit more susceptible to power glitches, etc? Any other pros or cons? manufacturer recommendations? I know it will cost more. The current unit has 2 circuits with 2 compressors on each. thanks for any guidance you can provide.

Reach out to your rep for Smardt Chillers. They have a mag bearing chiller. You're in Chicago I think? The rep is Roger Sauter with Bullock Logan
