Load test

For an Emergency DG set of 1600 KW , the spec requires Full load run test to be done for 8 hours. But the vendors are offering to have only for 1 hr to 2 hour only. Whether full load test runs duration are based on the capacity of the Generator or for all the Generators?

Similarly whether it is a must to have a100% CO2 back up set of bottles as per NFPA 12 for a safe area installation?

One of the differences between a 2 Hr test and an 8 Hr test on a set of that size may be over 700 Gallons of fuel.

A full load test past the point where oil, coolant and winding temperatures stabilize is a waste of fuel from a purely technical standpoint. However, it is often the requirement of some regulatory entity such as the government or the people at corporate headquarters, so common sense is effectively removed from the equation.
