Kingsine or other brand relay test kits 3

Hello everyone .

We have used relay test kits from brands like Kingsine, Omicron CMC356, Sverker, and Freja. Among them, Omicron was the most user-friendly. However, the Kingsine relay test kit also caught our attention as its computer interface seems quite practical.

According to the manufacturer, they have made sales in the UK, Romania, and Germany.

Is there anyone who has experience using this brand of test kit? Or do you know of a similar price-performance product?

Looks like a Chinese company.

That would probably take it out of the running for a lot of US utilities.

I do like the display built into the test set, might get annoying to use full time vs a laptop though but for something quick it would be handy to not have to connect a laptop.

The truth is, we liked this model: https://www.kingsine.com/products/kf85p-universal-relay-test-set/. This model does not have a screen either but its interface is somewhat similar to Omicron and the price is relatively affordable.

We are primarily considering it for distance protection busbar protection and IEC 61850 applications. Otherwise as you mentioned, there is also a smaller model, which I believe is designed for overcurrent applications.

We use three types of Kingsine. One is simple, old type. One is small size KFA300. 3 currents, up to 10A , 3 voltages... 3.6kg, with display, touch screen. A last device, 6 currents, 6 voltages. KF86P with display, touch screen. Good devices, good price.

Thank you for your response. Which brands did you use before these devices, and can you compare them? Also, why did you choose the K86P instead of the K85P? Can IEC 61850 communication and IED Scout be used with the device you are using?

We use SVERKER900, great device, we like it, and still use it, sorry, impossible compare, it is different devices. K86P included display, very comfortable, but connect mouse. Not needed additional computer. We don't use IEC61850. We build automatics tests for 87T, great option. Test LOM function, Vector Shift and ROCOF. Out of Step functionality. I think possible compare to Omicron/ISA/Double.

I think a big part of the purchasing decision has to consider an in country repair department or at least a sales office in country that can handle the logistics. Do they offer loaner sets when the kit goes down? I suppose it depends on who writes the check, but go for the best model with enough practical HW and SW options. Additionally accessories should also be included in the initial purchase. It's much harder to come back a few years later and ask for more funds.

Also, very important. What do your customers want? Do they have a preferred platform? The compatibility necessity often comes from compliance requirements.

As far as I can see, the device uses software similar to Omicron's software. Additionally, according to them, they have customers such as Siemens PLC UK and National Grid.

Our customers want protection relays to be tested accurately using a calibrated test device. However, as you mentioned, if the test device fails, we need to receive a quick and effective response for a solution. I will also discuss this matter with them.
