Load capacity of a screw fastener?

Hi,

Can anyone point me in the right direction for guidance on strength of threaded fasteners? More specifically, the capacity of a metric cap head screw threaded into ally. I know the subject can be complex depending on material types and depth of thread engement etc etc but.........

An online calculator would be ideal but failing that a chart of some sort would be good too.

But be prepared to be blasted for not having searched the web for screw strength calculator, or Eng-Tips, for an answer. There are plenty to be found.

Thanks for the quick reply CBL. I wondered where to ask but thought us SWX guys were the best bet! As for searchin - I have done a fair bit but not found what I was looking for.
