Requirements for structural design of manure storage tanks in Canada are set forth in Ontario Building Code (and National Building Code of Canada), A23.3 with ACI 350/A350R referenced for some additional requirements. My question is: how is the seismic check of liquid-containing structures regulated in Ontario since, as far as I know, there are no specific provisions or references in the OBC (or NBCC). If I am to use ACI 350.3 and the PCA publication “Design of Liquid-Containing Concrete Structures for Earthquake Forces” which both deal with seismic information for US sites (through IBC, UBC, BOCA and SBC), my question is: how do I relate Canadian seismic information in the OBC to US code information to be able to use ACI 350.3 and Design of Liquid-Containing Concrete Structures for Earthquake Forces, i.e., which US code method in ACI 350.3 and the PCA publication is compatible with Canadian code seismic information.
