Perhaps using a design table? One could use the Excel functions of a DT to convert thickness dimension to gage. Probably a very convoluted & nested set of IF functions.
A few weeks ago there was some related discussion on this. I discovered how easy it was to make a customized gauge table (since our thickness is different than the "standard"). I have not found how to link to a gauge number as it sounds like that is what you want to do. I do use the Thickness property in my sheet metal part and drawing templates. It is linked in my drawing title block to show the material thickness, but I then manually add "(20 Gauge)" behind the .034 value. I have not been able to find how to capture the gauge number. One would think that since we pick the gauge number from the Gauge Table that we'd also be able to link to it.
When SW processes a design table, it stops once it reaches a blank cell in the configuration column. That means all the cells below the first blank row can hold data without affecting the SW configuration portion of the DT.
One could put a gage table in the DT, located below the first blank row. Then a "gauge" custom property could refer to that gage table and use Excel's VLOOKUP function to place a value in the gauge property.
Thanks for the input guys, I don't have a whole lot of experience with design tables so I will have to mess around with it and see what I can come up with.
