Linking Project 2000 to SQL Databases

Can anyone provide me with any advice regarding the exchange of data between Project 2000 and SQL databases.

I am not sure whether to set up a databse and point a Project map to the underlying database, or set to up a project file and design a database to query data from there?

Any help/advice would be most appreciated
