Linked Exterior

First I want to say, I am NOT an advanced user....I received a model with a "Linked Exterior" and I need to split it an make two separte models. Is there a way to remove the linked exterior and expose the original parts?

I received a model...

If the model you received doesn't include the original parts, then there is no way to "expose the original parts". You will have to ask the source of the model if you can get the parts you need. But if they gave you a linked exterior to start with, they may not want to give you access to the original parts...
