A gap link element acts as compression only. Alternatively, you could use a frame element with compression-only frame assignment (tension limit = 0) to model directional compression only strut. In either of these situations, you must run as nonlinear or nonlinear with p-delta.
Running nonlinear analyses means that if you do a Design, you will have to define each load combinations to include a nonlinear "analysis case" Analysis case is the terminology used in the Define menu prior to V14. If you're using V14, the analysis case changed names to "load case", and the old load case in earlier versions was renamed to "load patterns"
