I'm looking for an opinion regarding tanks used in a flue gas desulfurization project.

I don't know which code to specify - API 650 or AWWA D100.

The fluid will be a 30% limestone slurry. It's water based, but can also be considered process. The fluids are not hazardous, but should not be released in quantity to the environment (as with just about any other fluid, I guess) API's jurisdiction is petroleum and process. AWWA's is water.

Asking around my office, I'm getting a lot of opinions - none definitive.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Thanks

Since it is an industrial application, I would expect API-650 to be used as the basic Standard for design.

I researched this issue a bit as well for an FGD project as well. AWWA D100 is primarily a municipal water supply standard and is written as such. API-650 Welded Above Ground Storage Tanks is going to be the way to go for Limestone Storage Tanks.

gmorin do you work for Advatech/URS?
