Hi all

Has anyone had experience with fitting surge arrestors to Profibus cable?

The cable will be installed underground at 500mm cover and the shield grounded at both ends where the cable enters the buildings.

I am comparing the feasibility of using FO cabling for this link in lieu of the Cu profibus for the isolation properties of the FO cabling (in the above lighting/surge context)

Thanks

mb

If your worried about lightning I would convert the "barney" purple cable to fiber optic before and after the underground section. I have never put lightning arrestors on any communications cable. I believe there are off the shelf profibus to fiber type devices.

Fair enough.

Yes, Siemens do the 'optical link module' for 2-channel RS-485 to optical signal

Thanks for your reply
